Leica M11-P Rangefinder Is World’s First Camera with Content Credentials to Authenticate Captures

In an era of digital imagery dominance, discerning the veracity of visual content has become a critical challenge. Leica Camera AG is once again redefining the landscape with its latest innovation, the Leica M11-P Camera, setting new standards in authenticity and trustworthiness.

Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Leica Camera AG, emphasizes the significance of this leap, stating, ‘Leica cameras have always stood witness to iconic moments in world history. However, determining the authenticity of visual content has become increasingly difficult and important in the age of digital photography. Now, with the ability to provide this proof, we are once again strengthening trust in digital content and re-establishing Leica cameras as authoritative tools in the documentation of world events.’

The Leica M11-P pioneered in integrating the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) and the C2PA standard, solidifying its position as the world’s first camera with Content Credentials. By introducing encrypted metadata in compliance with CAI, this groundbreaking camera ensures an additional layer of transparency in image file conception and modifications and ensures better protection of copyrights.

Gary Knight, CEO of The VII Foundation, underscores the significance of this collaboration, highlighting the importance of distinguishing authentic imagery from manipulated content in the digital age. Knight states, ‘Empowering the public with tools to distinguish between genuine and altered content is paramount.’ With the integration of CAI technology into the M11-P, Leica continues to foster trust and transparency in visual storytelling.

Beyond its innovative content authentication capabilities, the Leica M11-P boasts a suite of exceptional features. In a design that leans towards a cleaner, more pared-down look, the new Leica M11-P intentionally foregoes the iconic red Leica dot. It introduces a scratch-resistant sapphire glass rear display, a dark chrome viewfinder, and an engraved Leica script on the top cover. It comes in two variants: a black full-metal housing made of magnesium and aluminum and a silver full-metal housing made of magnesium and brass, both with leatherette covers.

The Leica M11-P also has a high-performance BSI CMOS full-frame sensor equipped with Triple Resolution Technology, a large, bright-line rangefinder with automatic parallax compensation, an electronically controlled focal plane shutter and electronic shutter function, a high-resolution touch display covering 100% of the sRGB color space, ISO 64-50000, 256GB internal memory, UHS-II SD card slot, seamless connectivity via image transfer to the Leica FOTOS app through Bluetooth or the USB-C port, and mobile workflow integration through popular applications like Capture One Pro and Adobe Lightroom.

The Leica M11-P Camera is also compatible with Leica’s suite of M-Lenses like the Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH.

Both variants of the Leica M11-P retail for $9,195 and are available on the Leica Webstore and in physical Leica retail stores.
