The Marlin Jet Automatic | Classic Watch Gets Retro-Futuristic Treatment

In a nod to the groovy vibes of the 1960s, Timex has resurrected its iconic Marlin series with the latest addition, the Marlin Jet Automatic. This timepiece pays homage to the space-age aesthetic of the ’60s, offering a seamless blend of retro and contemporary design. Priced at an enticing $289, the Marlin Jet promises to be a stylish companion for modern horologists, echoing the spirit of classic mid-century design.

The Marlin Jet boasts a modest 38mm brushed stainless steel case with a thickness of 11.5mm. The standout feature is the grooved rounded bezel with a black inlay, creating a distinct retro profile reminiscent of 1960s astronaut helmets. The domed Hesalite crystal, inspired by the space-age era, covers the entire top surface, leaving only the brushed lugs exposed. This design coherence extends to the grooves on the polished crown and caseback, drawing inspiration from 1930s Streamline Moderne aesthetics.

Other features include the silver-toned dial, tapering central seconds hand and a recessed 24-hour sub-dial at 9 o’clock, grooved crown, concentric rings on the exhibition caseback, branding at 12 and six o’clock, and 50-meter water resistance. The Marlin Jet comes with a 19mm blue woven Perlon strap and a brand-engraved pin buckle.

The Marlin Jet is powered by a reliable Japanese Miyota 8217 automatic movement visible through the exhibition caseback. It runs at a frequency of 21,600 vph, has an anti-shock system, and has a 42-hour power reserve.

The Timex Marlin Jet Automatic, priced competitively at $289, is out now. For those interested, this retro-futuristic classic is available from the Timex webstore. Swipe through the images of the Marlin Jet Automatic’s nod to the ’60s timeless design.
