Grand Seiko SLGH021 Genbi Valley Owes Its Design To Nature And Japanese Timekeeping Artistry

Grand Seiko unveiled its latest masterpiece, the SLGH021 Genbi Valley, at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2024. Drawing inspiration from Japan’s picturesque Genbi Valley, nestled along the Iwai River in Iwate Prefecture, the SLGH021 celebrates the natural wonders of this scenic locale. Renowned for its emerald-green waters and lush foliage, the valley’s ethereal beauty serves as a muse for Grand Seiko’s design ethos. With a nod to Japanese painting techniques such as Kirazuri, the dial of the SLGH021 boasts a mesmerizing kaleidoscope texture reminiscent of sparkling mica powder, evoking the tranquility of flowing water and verdant landscapes.

Crafted from Ever-Brilliant Steel, the 40mm case, with a thickness of 11.7mm and a lug-to-lug length of 47mm, showcases Grand Seiko’s commitment to precision engineering. Enhanced by Zaratsu polishing, the case’s mirror-polished surfaces captivate with their brilliance, while the textured green dial captures the essence of the Genbi Valley’s natural splendor. It also features box sapphire crystal with AR coating, a sapphire caseback, applied, faceted, and Zaratsu-polished indices, beveled and Zaratsu-polished hour and minute hands, a date window at 3 o’clock, blued central seconds hand, and water resistance up to 100 meters. It comes with a 3-link stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp with push-button release.

The SLGH021 houses the groundbreaking Caliber 9SA5, an in-house high-frequency mechanical movement that beats at 5Hz. Equipped with 47 jewels, an accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds per day, a Dual Impulse Escapement, and twin barrels, this caliber delivers an 80-hour power reserve.

With a limited production run of just 1,000 pieces worldwide, the Grand Seiko SLGH021 Genbi Valley is a truly exclusive collector’s item. Priced at $10,400 USD, this unique timepiece will be available from June 1st at select Grand Seiko Mastershops, Salons, and Boutiques.
