The 2023 Lexus NX series carries over the innovative revamp introduced in the 2022 model, blending electrification with a matured design and intuitive cabin experience. Lexus gave the NX four different powertrain options, including a hybrid and plug-in hybrid model, as well as the F Sport trim options on the NX 350 and NX450h+ models. We got behind the wheel of the zippy NX 350 F Sport and got to see firsthand where Lexus hits the mark and where it’s still got some work to do.
No matter which trim level you ultimately go with, Lexus ensures the design details are enough to pull you in and keep you there. The exterior is confident with plenty of edge. As expected, the Lexus spindle grille is front and center as it has been so quite sometime now. The F Sport’s trim features dedicated F Sport grille and bumpers, 20” gloss black aluminum wheels with color-key overfenders, black roof rails, daylight opening window framing, and exclusive F Sport color options including Ultra White, Obsidian and Ultrasonic Blue 2.0.
An improvement over the previous NX generation, the current turbocharged all-wheel drive Lexus NX 350 F Sport is based on the same Toyota’s GA-K platform as the Toyota RAV4 crossover. The car delivers an enjoyable drive experience with accurate steering features, though minor steering wheel vibrations are evident. The adaptive suspension tuning for the 350 F Sport makes for a comfortable drive both on and off-road but it still favors a deluxe daily street ride over cross-country hard labor.
The 2023 Lexus NX 350 F Sport carries the same powertrain as the base model with a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder in-line engine offering 275 hp and 317 lb. ft. of torque, and can go from 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds. For those opting for something green, a hybrid option, the NX 350 H, comes with two electric motors with a 239 hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine. With the 350 F Sport, it still leaves a bit to be desired. Though tamed, it still has moments of promise and we enjoyed the NX’s balancing act between comfort and sportiness.
Inside, the NX line offers one of the roomier cabins in the luxury-subcompact crossover vehicle segment with more passenger room in the rear seats or more cargo space with the rear seats folded. That’s versatility and function we can get behind.
The interior also ups the understated luxury vibe of the line with the use of modern and quality materials from the Dark Graphite Aluminum ornamentation, a unique meter, sport seats, bespoke steering wheel, aluminum pedals, to the Black and Circuit Red NuLuxe perforated interior trim integrated on the seats, steering wheel and center console. Additionally, 2023 Lexus NX 350 F Sport owners can opt for the Luxury package that brings a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen, unique headlights and 64-color interior lighting. Other optional features include a panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats, and a black open-pore wood trim.
Standard to the Lexus NX are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto via a wireless connection, and buyers can opt for a wireless smartphone charging pad. A 10-speaker stereo system is standard and comes with a free trial of Amazon Music, but opting for the Premium or Luxury packages gives owners a 17-speaker Mark Levinson stereo system.
For customers new to Lexus, the NX is a great starting point. It delivers on many fronts and given its starting price, it’s easy to focus on the bits you’ll love. With its design and creature comforts leading the charge, there’s virtually nothing Lexus overlooked.
The 2023 Lexus NX 350 F Sport is priced at around $48,615 and is part of the Lexus NX fleet that includes the NX 250 FWD, NX 250 AWD, NX 350, NX 350h, and NX 450h+ models.
