Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection Captures Solar Eclipse

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars just revealed the exclusive Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection, inspired by the spectacle of a solar eclipse. It coincides with the annual solar eclipse on October 14th that’s visible in parts of the Western Hemisphere.

The exterior design showcases an iridescent Lyrical Copper finish containing powdered copper pigment mirroring the feel of a solar eclipse. The Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis also sports Mandarin accents on the Pantheon Grille and brake calipers that symbolize the Sun’s intense pulses during the eclipse, a Mandarin hand-painted coachline, illuminated door sill plates, and a unique indoor car cover.

The showstopper of the Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis interior is the fully bespoke Starlight Headliner. As the coach doors close and the engine starts, a light sequence simulates the progression of a solar eclipse. A circle of 940 ‘stars’ mirrors the bright corona of light around the lunar silhouette, surrounded by 192 illuminating ‘stars’ reminiscent of the stars visible during daylight only during a total solar eclipse. This meticulous animation, lasting precisely seven minutes and 31 seconds, mirrors the longest possible duration of a total solar eclipse and requires a year of development and three prototypes to perfect.

The dashboard has an illuminated fascia that features 1,846 laser-etched ‘stars,’ carefully positioned to represent the stages of a solar eclipse, demanding over 100 hours of detailed craftsmanship. The highlight is a bespoke timepiece housing a 0.5-carat diamond, symbolizing the ‘Diamond Ring’ effect just before and after the Moon obscures the Sun. This is the company’s first integration of a gemstone into a clock’s bezel.

The interior of the Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis captures the 360-degree twilight effect observed during a solar eclipse. The black-tinted Mandarin leather seats are perforated with over 200,000 individual perforations, revealing a contrasting color beneath, producing a subtle effect. The umbrella hidden in the doors also gets Mandarin piping.

Only 25 Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection units are produced, with each already allocated to clients worldwide, reflecting the brand’s pursuit of rarity and elegance.

Its release coincides with the annual solar eclipse on October 14th that’s visible in parts of the Western Hemisphere. No pricing information has been revealed, though expect it to be higher than the standard Ghost’s $351,000 starting price. For more information, please visit the official Rolls Royce website.
