Aviation-Inspired Bugatti Chiron Sport ‘Les Légendes du Ciel’ is Limited to Just 20 Units

Bugatti is pulling inspiration from its earliest years with the unveiling of the limited edition Chiron Sport ‘Les Légendes du Ciel’. Many may not know that company founder Ettore Bugatti had developed plane engines in the middle of the 1910s and even designed a complete aircraft in 1937, though World War II halted those plans. Many of the racing drivers had also flown for the French Air Force.

“Many successful Bugatti racing drivers, such as Albert Divo, Robert Benoist and Bartolomeo ‘Meo’ Costantini, flew for the French Air Force. It is therefore almost an obligation for us today to pay tribute to the legends of that time and dedicate a special edition to them.” – Stephan Winkelmann, Bugatti President

With the Chiron Sport as its foundation, the Bugatti Les Légendes du Ciel features a unique “Gris Serpent” finish, inspired by the iconic gray shade of planes from the 1920s. A white stripe stretches from the grille to the rear wing, helping to break things up. The front part of each rocket panel has been painted blue, white and red while exposed carbon fiber detailing can be seen throughout. And the grille inserts are changed here as well with mesh being swapped out for laser-cut strips of aluminum, reminiscent of a group of planes flying in formation.

The cabin of the Bugatti Chiron Sport Les Légendes du Ciel is rich in details with beautiful brown leather and aviation-inspired aluminum trimming helping to set the tone. Look closer at the door panels and you’ll see a hand-sketched image of a Bugatti Type 13 racing a Nieuport 17 biplane. While the Type 13 was the first Bugatti-badged car, the 17 released just a few years after and was single-seater known for its speed and reliability.

Performance numbers are as insane as you’d expect with the Les Légendes du Ciel churning out 1,500 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque from a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission manages the power to all four wheels and helps to top the speed out at 261, electronically limited.

Only 20 units of the Bugatti Chiron Sport Les Légendes du Ciel will ever see the light of day, with pricing start at 2.88 million Euros. See more in the gallery and contact your nearest Bugatti dealer to learn more.
