Cadillac has just debuted its new Escala Concept, which sports an innovative design that indicates the coming evolution and ongoing expansion of the luxury car brand. The new concept’s release has two objectives according to the President of Global Cadillac Johan de Nysschen: “First, Escala is a statement of intent for the next iteration of the Cadillac design language, and also technical concepts in development for future Cadillac models. Secondly, Escala builds Cadillac’s aspirational character, signaling the brand’s return to the pinnacle of premium.” Already the third concept to be unveiled by Cadillac at Pebble Beach, the Escala – Spanish for “scale” – is bringing a larger, more luxurious and more expressive aesthetic to the brand’s existing product lineup.
The evolution of Cadillac is clearly expressed through the new and evolved face in the design, including a unique organic light emitting diode (OLED) approach to the brand’s signature vertical lighting. The 4-door sedan also features an expansive liftback design, really proving true to its name through the emphasis on considerable scale and versatility. Andrew Smith, executive director of Cadillac Global Design, stated that “On the interior, we pushed further. It’s about precision and ingenuity in craftsmanship, and the artistic integration of technology.” With two overarching themes, the Escala’s interiors provide a dynamic experience; while the front is rooted in careful attention to modern technology, the rear is more centered on relaxation. The new car also sports an innovative connectivity system, which “features a central control module that enables the driver to execute tactile commands across the spectrum of connectivity functions, in addition to voice and gesture control technology,” as well as an advanced 4.2-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine that is in the works for future Cadillac models.
