Every year, Claridge’s hotel in London holds a Christmas tree unveiling to celebrate the start of the holiday season. There have been various designers in the past who have helped with the hotel’s installations, and for this season they’ve tapped Apple’s very own Chief Design Officer, Jony Ive, and industrial designer, Marc Newson. The two collaborated with the hotel to create an immersive installation located in the lobby of the hotel in Mayfair. “Our aim was to create an all-enveloping magical experience that celebrates our enormous respect for tradition while recognising our excitement about the future and things to come,” said the designers. Patrons of the hotel are greeted at the entryway with four-meter-high light boxes that display images of a snowed forest. There are also small amounts of artificial snow scattered throughout the installation, creating the immersive winter environment that the design-duo set out to develop.
