2021 Jaguar I-PACE Gets Smarter, More Efficient with Help From Formula E Tech

Jaguar’s uncovered the 2021 I-Pace, with bits coming from Land Rover, the Jaguar Formula E partnership, and beyond. With some of the hardware changes and software updates, the latest iteration of the all-electric SUV delivers improved range, charging efficiency and more.

When it comes to exterior styling, the I-PACE gets three new color choices in Caldera Red, Portofino Blue, and Eiger Grey. There are also new wheels to choose from and 19-inch wheels replace the 18-inches on the base-model S. A Bright Pack option adds several exterior accents finished in either chrome grille surround, satin chrome window surrounds, or Atlas Gray on the mirror caps and rear diffuser. The optional Black Pack expands and now paints the rear badges in gloss black.

A 3D surround camera system is standard for 2021—a clear sight digital rearview mirror that debuted on the latest Range Rover Evoque. A rear-facing, wide-angle camera mounted in the infotainment system’s roof antenna can quickly send images to the inside mirror via the toggle. Two extra speakers added to the Meridian 3D surround-sound system and in-cabin filtration to the PM2.5 standard. PM2.5 represents particulate matter 2.5 microns in sizes, such as combustion emissions or road dust. To provide some context, N95 masks filter 95 percent of particles just 0.3 microns large.

The most significant bonus is the updated Pivi Pro infotainment system that’s getting easier to use and faster to respond. The new menus and a new navigation system can work with pinch movements inspired by mobile smartphones. There are also added connectivity selections as well as wireless charging for mobile devices. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also an option, 4G data enabling live traffic, in-unit Spotify and other listening apps, and swift over-the-air updates. They’re all grouped in the Smartphone Pack together with Bluetooth connectivity.

On top of Pivi’s algorithms to learn the best routing and stay quiet during parts of a route that the I-Pace travels regularly, the 4G support means the I-PACE always has the most updated info on EV chargers along your journey. A new 11-kilowatt onboard charger has also been installed here, allowing for faster charging when using a proper wall box charger at home. If you’re in a rush, a high-speed charging station is still the way to go. According to Jaguar, with the use of a 100-kw charger, you can get 80 miles of range in just 15 minutes.
