F.P.Journe Élégante Sets World Record As Most Expensive Quartz Wristwatch Sold At An Auction
Unique luxury watches keep being auctioned off at exceptionally high prices. Just last week, a new world record was set for the most expensive quartz wristwatch sold in an auction at a fundraiser in Geneva. The record-breaking timepiece was a one-of-a-kind F.P.Journe Élégante that was auctioned for 470,000 CHF (approx. $552,359 USD), which was crafted for the 30th anniversary of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Geneva (MAMCO).
Housed in Titalyt-coated titanium, the 48mm timepiece features a cohesive gray-scale palette from the dial to the strap. The watch’s face showcases overlapping letters ‘A,’ ‘R,’ and ‘T,’ representing the word ‘ART’ and F.P.Journe’s core values of authenticity, rarity, and talent. Powered by an advanced in-house quartz movement, the watch also has a rose gold circuit board, mirroring the watchmaker’s 18k rose gold movement on mechanical models.
The timepiece was sold to an international collector and philanthropist, and all proceeds went to MAMCO’s renovation efforts. For more details, visit the brand’s website.
