Andy Warhol was a celebrated artist and a passionate watch collector. His impressive collection included several luxury watches, of which at least seven were by Piaget. To honor his legacy, Piaget revived one of the most famous timepieces in Warhol’s collection, the Black Tie. The new version is renamed the Piaget Andy Warhol Clou de Paris watch and marks the last installment of the brand’s 150th anniversary.
The Piaget Black Tie was introduced in 1972 and housed the Beta 21 quartz movement. Unlike the original version, the new model is powered by the self-winding Caliber 501P1, which provides 40 hours of power reserve and operates at 28,800 beats per hour. Though these details are hidden, this movement is beautifully decorated with circular Côtes de Genève, circular-graining, and beveling.
Similar to the original version, the new Piaget Andy Warhol watch has a cushion case with substantial dimensions, measuring 45mm in diameter. The sides of the white gold case are adorned with two rows of Clou de Paris (or hobnail) guilloché motifs rather than customary gadroons, which took the brand 10 months to perfect.
Apart from its extraordinary case, the watch stands out with its striking blue meteorite dial paired with Dauphine-style hands and stick hour markers. Its dark blue alligator leather strap secured by a white gold pin buckle perfectly matches the dial.
Although this version comes with a white gold case, blue meteorite dial, and blue leather strap, Piaget offers a variety of customization options through its ‘Infinitely Personal’ concept. Customers can choose between rose or white gold cases, ten different stone dials, Dauphine or baton hands, and five strap colors.
The Piaget Andy Warhol Clou de Paris watch Ref. G0A49238 highlights the deep and sincere relationship between the Maison and Andy Warhol. The Black Tie was already known as the Andy Warhol in the secondary market, and this launch has made it official. It has a retail price of $60,000, with the price varying for any customizations.
