Bentley is set to enter four Mulliner-built and race-prepared Continuation Series cars in the Le Mans Classic on July 3rd-6th. This is the largest works team the brand has fielded at the La Sarthe circuit since 1930. The lineup includes three Blower Continuation Series cars and one Speed Six Continuation Series.
The Mulliner Classic team has prepared all four Bentleys and will be backed by dedicated Bentley engineers and mechanics. Overall operations will be led by Race Manager Dave Argent, whose experience includes successfully managing the Bentley Motorsport Continental GT3 race team.
The owners of the vehicles have been supported by Mulliner’s classic racing programme, which included race preparation over several months. To mark the occasion, the owners and their cars gathered in London to recreate a famous 1929 photograph of the works Bentley team after the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The original photo featured the Bentley Boys, while the 2025 recreation features the four current drivers along with Ben Linde, Special Projects Leader at Mulliner
Preparation for Le Mans included a recent shakedown at the Donington Classic in May. All four cars competed in the ‘Mad Jack’ Trophy for pre-war sports cars. It gave the drivers a valuable chance to push the cars to their limits under race conditions.
Owner/Driver Mark M of the Continuations Series Speed Six reflected on his experience, saying, ‘These cars take a lot of muscle to hustle around…hats off to the guys who did that for 24 solid hours! I had a good dice at the end of the race, which is more fun than circulating on your own. I think I bettered my qualifying time, so I’m getting the hang of it.’
U.S.-based entrant, Jack Boyd Smith Jr., also returns with his Blower Continuation model and hopes driver Stuart Morley will make a podium finish this July.
In 1929, Bentley claimed a dominant 1-2-3-4 finish at Le Mans, with Barnato and Birkin’s Speed Six heading home three Bentley 4½ Liters. This year, the team will aim to replicate their past success. For more details, visit the brand’s website.
