In case you haven’t seen it yet, the third Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer is finally out, and it reveals a surprise: A villain we weren’t expecting to see until much later in the movie franchise. Much of the trailer expectedly revolves around the tension between Clark Kent/Superman (Henry Cavill) and Bruce Wayne/Batman (Ben Affleck). Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) also gets her fair share of screen time.
The biggest surprise, however, comes in the form of one of Superman’s greatest villains in the comics: Doomsday. In the comics, it was Doomsday who famously “killed” Superman in 1992. So to already see him here, in only the second movie of the franchise, is quite interesting, if not a bit worrying.
In the comics, Doomsday was the product of a mad Kryptonian scientist who sought to create the most powerful creature in the universe through forced natural selection. In the movie – at least from what we’re seeing in the trailer – Doomsday is created by Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) with the DNA of General Zod, the main antagonist in Man of Steel.
Will this deviation from comic canon make or break the movie series? The fate of future Justice League movies may rest on the success of Batman v Superman. The movie will hit cinemas on March 25, 2016 – until then, enjoy the third Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer below.
