Sony FX30 Cine Cam is an Entry-Level Filmmaking Powerhouse

The Sony FX30 Cine Cam is Sony’s recent addition to its FX Cinema Line of cameras. Almost identical to the magnesium alloy FX3, but swaps out the full-frame sensor with a smaller 26MP  Super35/APS-C backside-illuminated CMOS sensor.

The FX30 can record 4K/60p 10-bit 4:2:2 video natively in H.265 or H.264, as well as output 16-bit RAW video over HDMI to an external recorder. It can also capture 4K/120p with a 1.62x crop and stills in full APS-C at 6,192×4,128 pixels.

Other features include dual base 800 and 2500 ISO, a 100 to 32,000 ISO range, 5-axis in-body image stabilization, and real-time Eye AF with real-time tracking. Like the FX3, the FX30 features a cooling fan, dual CFexpress/SDXC card slots, and a full-size HDMI socket.

The FX30, Like other Cinema Line cameras, features S-Log3 Flexible ISO modes for recording, log shooting modes by enabling Cine EI or Cine EI Quick, and includes Sony’s S-Cinetone profile.The Sony FX30 with the XLR microphone handle, FX30B, is priced at $2200, while the body-only FX30 is also available with a $1800 price tag. The camera is available online now at Sony and at selected retailers.
