iPad Pro M2 Arrives with Faster Performance and New Apple Pencil Detection

The iPad Pro M2, the newest iteration of the iPad Pro, arrives in 12.9-inch and 11-inch versions. It is equipped with Cupertino’s latest M2 chip and will launch alongside the new iPadOS 16, which supports the new Apple Pencil hover functionality, Wi-Fi 6E support, and ProRes video recording.

With the M2 chip, the new iPad Pro M2 has an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU, which supports up to 15% faster CPU performance and up to 35% faster GPU performance. It features a new media engine and image signal processor that enables ProRes video recording in Dolby Atmos and up to 3x faster ProRes video transcoding.

The 12.9-inch version features a Liquid Retina XDR display, and both models feature an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate and come equipped to support Wi-Fi 6E. This comes with support for more 5G networks internationally.

Additionally, the second-generation Apple Pencil is now detected on the new iPad Pro, allowing a preview of the user’s drawing while hovering up to 12mm above the display, as well as automatically expanding text fields when the pencil gets near the screen in Scribble.

The iPad Pro M2 is available now with prices ranging from $799 for the basic model to $2,399 for the full-featured 12.9-inch model.
