Mercedes-Benz just unveiled the Concept CLA-Class. The Concept CLA-Class EV is an electric-first clean-sheet design that uses the new Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture and is expected to go into production in late 2024 in a sedan body style, with a wagon and two SUV body styles to follow.
The Mercedes-Benz Concept CLA Class sedan features a Pomegranate Red paint scheme, a sculpted shark nose, a shorter rear deck, flared fenders, full-width LED head and tail lighting, three-pointed daytime running lights, panoramic windows, star-patterned six-spoke 21-inch wheels, and 255/35R-21 front and 285/30R-21 rear tires.
Sustainability underscores the Mercedes-Benz Concept CLA Class interior design language, inspired by the Vision EQXX, which features sustainable materials for most of the interior. It features a cabin-spanning MBUX Superscreen display running on the MB.OS chip-to-cloud architecture, silver and white Nappa leather seat upholstery tanned using coffee husks, purple accent fabric made from recycled PET plastic, embroidered Benz laurel wreath design detailing, strips of lab-grown silk lined door pockets, bamboo floor mats, and recyclable paper satin silver door pull and armrest trim. The production model will come with Level 2 assisted driving capability, upgradeable to Level 3 with more LIDAR-integrated sensors.
The powertrain gets an estimated 400 miles on the 800-volt architecture. Using DC fast-charging at 250 kW allows the vehicle to recharge around 248 miles of range in 15 minutes. That battery power is routed to a compact Mercedes-Benz Electric Drive Unit mounted on the rear axle. It’s composed of an electric motor, two-speed transmission, and linked inverters and electronics.
There is no pricing information on the production model yet, but expect more information as the car goes into production in late 2024, with an expected delivery in 2025. For more information, please visit the Mercedes-Benz website.
