Hyundai’s latest performance EV, the Ioniq 5 N, made its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. After completing final testing at the Nürburgring, the debut signals the Seoul-based automobile manufacturer’s entry into the performance EV ring.
The Ioniq 5 N gets exterior upgrades from the standard model that includes a slightly lower stance, wider track, wider front and rear bumpers, N Mask graphic fascia with functional mesh, air curtain, active air flaps, a more pronounced wing-type rear spoiler and diffuser, an EV N-exclusive ‘Luminous Orange’ at the bottom of the black front bumper cover continues along the side skirts, N-exclusive black bumper cover with checkered flag reflector graphics, and a rear window wiper. It rides on forged 21-inch aluminum wheels with high-grip 275/35R21 Pirelli P-Zero tires.
The interior of the Ioniq 5 N features two-toned N bucket seats with reinforced bolsters, microsuede coverings throughout the cabin, a full-length center console with knee pads and shin support, sliding armrest, N-branded elements on the steering wheel, seats, door scuff panels and metal pedals, C-type USB, wireless charger and cup holders, and a new steering wheel with configurable buttons.
Most of the Ioniq 5 N changes appear on the powertrain. The performance car runs on a two-motor 84-kWh battery EV powertrain that serves up 601 hp and 545 lb-ft of torque, but with the use of Ioniq 5 N’s ‘N Grin Boost’ boost feature, the car can reach peak outputs of 641 hp and 567 lb-ft. The Ioniq 5 N can go from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds with a top speed limited to 161 mph. Taking the car to a stop, the Ioniq 5 N comes with squeeze 15.7-inch front rotors with four-piston fixed calipers, a 14.2-inch rotor single-piston slider in the rear, and brake-specific brake cooling ducts.
Performance-wise, the Ioniq 5 N comes with several advancements like multiple drive modes, e-Shift programming that simulates gearshifts, N Active Sound+ profiles, N Drift Optimizer, Torque Kick Drift function, N Torque Distribution, and the previously mentioned N Grin Boost that maximizes acceleration by a power increment of 10 seconds, and N Launch Control that provides three different traction levels for the fastest possible start.
The Ioniq 5 N is expected to arrive in early 2024 and will be offered in 10 colors, including the N-specific Performance Blue, both gloss and matte. Though the total range and pricing have yet to be revealed, expect to have more information closer to release.
