Autodromo Group B Series 2 ‘Safari’ Pays Homage to Paris-Dakar Rallies of the 1980s
New York-based watch brand Autodromo continues to impress, this time releasing the Group B Series 2 Safari. Inspired by the Safari and Paris-Dakar rallies of the 1980s, this iteration of the brand’s iconic Group B wristwatch is finished in dark green, with bright orange “Safari” logo on the dial alongside natural lume indexes and hands. Autodromo’s packaging always features unique touches and the Safari’s is no different, coming in a special green shell with a drawing of the 1986 Paris-Dakar winning Porsche 959 rally car. Each Group B Safari comes in a hand-crafted aluminum collector’s box with a numbered plaque.
The Autodromo Group B Series 2 features a bi-metallic case, which we see here in dark green. The 39mm titanium body is composed of two parts and houses a Miyota 9015 automatic movement inside. It’s mated to a 23mm tapered bracelet in the same finish, giving it a “high-tech” aesthetic reminiscent of the design language of the early 1980s. Its bead blasted, plated finish gives off different shades when the light hits, ranging from near matte gray to an almost emerald color depending on the angle and light source.
With this new iteration, I wanted to create a killer monochromatic color scheme that is instantly different. It isn’t easy to do a colored steel bracelet but we found a plating that works really well on the Series 2. It’s a really cool color because it is subtle and understated in some light, but takes on a brighter color when the light hits it just right. – Bradley Price, President and Creative Director of Autodromo
