Mercedes Vision AMG Concept Leads All-electric AMG DNA Future

Mercedes-AMG reveals more details around the Mercedes Vision AMG, the first vehicle to be built on its new dedicated performance EV platform. The slinky four-door “coupe” design seems to rival the Porsche Taycan or Audi RS E-Tron GT.

The Vision AMG is the beginning of the performance-minded arm reinventing itself into an all-electric brand. All the underpinnings are developed in-house, including the batteries, which some manufacturers purchase from companies like Panasonic. Its compact and lightweight motor, described to deliver “substantially more power” compared to conventional ones, is being developed by YASA, a Mercedes-Benz acquired company.

It is presented with a long wheelbase and with a hint of the Vision EQXX concept’s upturned tail. Vision really sets the brand forward with headlights in the shape of the Mercedes-Benz’s three-pointed star logo and AMG’s vertical bars.

An active spoiler deploys at the back to help with aerodynamics. AMG outperforms Corvettes and Skylines with six circular LED taillights. Vision appears like a sci-fi vehicle with its Alubeam silver finish covering even the side and back windows.

The concept also contains several tributes to the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team. It sits on 22-inch wheels designed to look like the teal-ringed, white-lettered F1 car wheels with Pirelli tires. The exposed carbon fiber parts and the star logo pattern across the rear surfaces are reminiscent of the team livery. Petronas teal accents are also be found on the sills and rear diffuser.

Mercedes-AMG CEO Philipp Schiemer says this is “the first glimpse of how we are transferring the AMG DNA into the all-electric future.” See more of the Mercedes Vision AMG in the gallery.
