The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in Blue Ceramic Celebrates 50 Years of Excellence

Audemars Piguet unveils the latest timepiece to join the black and white ceramic timepieces in its flagship Royal Oak collection to celebrate the watchmaker’s golden jubilee. The new Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar 41mm Blue Ceramic introduces Audemars Piguet’s first blueberry-blue ceramic crafted case and bracelet with matching blue Grande Tapisserie patterned dial and subdials.

Like the black and the white versions before it, the timepiece has a 41mm diameter case with a thickness of 9.5mm and 20m water resistance. The three calendar dials and moon phase provide symmetry on the dial and provide the hours, minutes, day, date, week, month, astronomical moon, and leap year information. The blue Royal Oak still has the signature octagonal bezel with eight 18k white gold studs, glare proof sapphire crystal and caseback, titanium AP folding clasp, and ceramic screw-locked crown.

Calibre 5134 movement powers the Blue Ceramic Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar, measuring only 4.3mm and running at a frequency of 2.75Hz with 40 hours of power reserve. The movement decoration includes 38 jewels, a solid 22k gold open-worked oscillating weight, Côtes de Genève, circular graining, sunray brushing and polished chamfers.

What makes this particular Royal Oak special is the Blue Ceramic. The process requires heating Zirconium Oxide powder, along with a few secret ingredients, to a temperature of 1,400°C, then machining it into shape and hand-finishing the alternating satin and polished finishes to give that trademark Royal Oak shine.

The Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar 41mm Blue Ceramic 26579CS retails for around $108,540. For more information, please visit Audemars Piguet’s website.
