McLaren 750S: Lighter and More Powerful 720S Heir

McLaren Automotive reveals the 2024 McLaren 750S that will replace the outgoing 720S. With 30% new components, the McLaren 750S features upgrades that include exterior tweaks, a more powerful engine, and a lighter weight.

On the outside, the changes from the 720S are subtle. The McLaren 750S sports a lower nose, smaller headlight intakes, deeper lip spoiler, lighter windshield, new side intakes, and a longer tail with a larger, but lighter, active rear wing. It is fitted with exhaust pipes that converge in a center-exit setup like on the McLaren P1. The 750S also gets 15.4-inch carbon-ceramic rotors with monobloc front calipers, titanium wheel bolts, forged wheels, and Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires. It boasts reworked Proactive Chassis Control linked-hydraulic suspension and 6 mm wider front tracks. A 750S Spider convertible is also available.

The 750S interior updates include standard carbon-fiber racing seats, power adjustments on the steering column, the McLaren Control Launcher, a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that now features Apple CarPlay, customizable ambient lighting, and a Bower & Wilkins sound system.

The powertrain gets an upgrade with the middle-mounted twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 getting a higher boost pressure courtesy of an additional fuel pump, and pistons from the 765LT. This gives the engine an additional 30 hp and 22 lb-ft of torque, raising the maximum output to 740 hp and 590 lb-ft. All that power goes through the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with a shorter final-drive ratio.

With all the changes, the 750S boasts a lighter total weight compared to the 720S. The coupe had a curb weight of 3,062 lbs, while the Spider weighs in at 3,170 lbs.

The 2024 McLaren 750S coupe comes in at a starting price of $331,740, while the Spider version starts at $352,740. Orders are now open through local McLaren dealerships, with the first units expected for delivery in the third quarter of this year.
