2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS | Peak of Open-top, Mid-Engine Driving

Porsche announces the most powerful version of the naturally aspirated engine from the 911 GT3 in the open-top, mid-engine 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS. The new 718 Spyder RS is a counterpart to the 718 Cayman GT4 RS.

On the outside, the 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS has a front end almost identical to the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. With the front lid made of CFRP, it features a wide air outlet above the bumper to channel the airflow, two NACA ducts, downforce-supporting side blades, and a slightly shorter front spoiler lip. In addition, the new 718 Spyder RS has a large ducktail spoiler. Available exterior color options include four standard and three metallic paints, including the new Vanadium Grey Metallic, and the special Arctic Grey, Shark Blue, and Ruby Star Neo colors.

The 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS is constructed with a unique and completely removable two-part manually-operated, lightweight soft top composed of a sun shield and a weather protector that can be stowed in the vehicle. Weighing in at a little over 40 lbs., the system gives weight savings of more than 16 lbs. compared to the base 718 Spyder and more than 36 lbs. versus the 718 Boxster.

The chassis on the new car takes its cue from both the 718 Cayman GT4 RS and the 718 Spyder. It comes standard with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with sports calibration, Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with a mechanical rear limited-slip differential, ball joint type suspension bearings, 20-inch forged alloy wheels, adjustable ride height, toe, camber, and anti-roll bars, reduced spring and damper rates, and an optional front axle lift system.

The car’s interior sports a Race-Tex covered GT Sport steering wheel with a yellow 12-o’clock marking, lightweight CFRP standard Full Bucket seats made of a carbon-weave finish, black leather seat covers, perforated Race-Tex seat centers in either Arctic Grey and Carmine Red contrasting colors with a black background, a ‘Spyder RS’ logo in the respective contrasting color embroidered on the headrests, and leather dashboard and trims.

An optional Weissach Package is also available for the Spyder RS which comes with optional forged magnesium wheels, a titanium sport exhaust system, an exposed carbon fiber hood, carbon fiber lateral combustion air scoops, a carbon fiber Gurney flap on the rear spoiler, a visual highlight on the Race-Tex covered upper part of the dashboard, ‘Weissach’ embroidered seat headrests logos, and Weissach logo embossed cloth top.

The 2024 718 Spyder RS uses the same powertrain as the 718 Cayman GT4 RS coupe. The four-liter six-cylinder boxer engine generates up to 493 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque, channeled through a short-ratio seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung transmission. This allows the car to go from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds, with a top track speed of 191 mph.

Buyers of the 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS are also eligible to purchase the exclusive handcrafted Chronograph 718 Spyder RS by Porsche Design, crafted by the Porsche watchmaking operation in Solothurn, Switzerland.

The new 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS carries an MSRP of $160,700 excluding the $1,450 delivery, processing, and handling charge. The car will have its public premiere in June at the 75-year festivities celebrating Porsche sports cars in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, followed by an appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England. Deliveries are expected in the spring of 2024.
