Mercedes-Benz and Moncler by NIGO extended their collaboration at The City of Genius show in Shanghai on October 19, 2024. In addition to launching the brand campaign ‘Past Forward. Where the Future is Driven by the Past,’ the two brands revealed an art piece titled ‘Project G-Class Past II Future.’
The art piece is inspired by NIGO and combines a minimalistic color palette of olive green and gray with striking black and gold accents. It is based on a restored 90s G-Class and merges the edginess of the G-Class with the Moncler’s puffer jacket’s quilted aesthetic. The art piece reimagines hallmark G-class elements, measuring 4.5 meters in length, 1.9 meters in width, and 2.0 meters in height. These include black steel wheels in the 90s design, a spare wheel on the rear tailgate, a foldable windscreen, and a gold-colored fuel can. Additionally, the interior has been reworked with new elements, including an immersive sound system. Reimagined design features, such as the chequered seat upholstery pattern inspired by early G-Class models, are also included.
The limited edition G-Class Past II Future draws inspiration from NIGO’s art piece. The exclusive vehicle, based on the new G 450 d and the new G 500, embodies the timeless nature of the G-class and its capability to adapt to modern lifestyles. Its exterior features green and grey paintwork, light metal alloy wheels, black accents on the window frames, a rear-mounted spare wheel with the collaboration logo on its cover, and the signature bumper guard with Past II Future lettering. The interior includes G-Class typical chequered upholstery, Past II Future lettering on the grab handle, and a ‘1 of 20’ inscription on the center console.
Mercedes-Benz and Moncler also partnered to create a gender-neutral fashion collection where a sneak peek was given at The City of Genius show. Similarly to the art piece, the lineup incorporates 90s influences with contemporary street-style elements. It includes hoodies, college jackets, parkas, lightweight down and field jackets, windbreakers, checked shirts, and Bermuda shorts. The collection features a color palette of blue, black, green, and white with orange accents and prints that merge archival photos of the collaboration partners.
Accompanying the product reveals the ‘Past Forward. Where the Future is Driven by the Past’ brand campaign visually explores the connection between the past and future and the evolving relationship between the two brands. The campaign features the streetwear collection in an urban rooftop setting, where the rooftop’s angular metallic surfaces provide a striking backdrop.
The global campaign will be featured on each brand’s website and social media, while the limited-edition G-Class and capsule collection will launch in April 2025. For more information, visit the brand’s website.
