Longines Introduces Its First Carbon Case Timepiece, The Ultra-Chron Carbon
Longines is tapping into contemporary trends this 2025 by revamping a classic silhouette from the 1960s with a futuristic aesthetic. For the first time in the brand’s lineup, the new Ultra-Chron Carbon incorporates a carbon case construction and a monochrome color palette, giving it a modern design.
While the 43mm-wide cushion case for the Ultra-Chron Carbon takes its form from the standard Ultra-Chron, Longines amplified the design by giving it a matte carbon fiber finish that is created using a layered mix of unidirectional carbon fiber and epoxy resin. This technique creates smooth black and grey striations that emphasize the case’s linear surfaces and chamfers in photos. However, the caseback and upper case surfaces are treated with the more common carbon flake method, adding to the futuristic look without overwhelming the overall design.
The bezel has also been updated to a fixed, smooth-edged titanium bezel with a matte black aluminum 60-minute insert. The titanium construction is extended to the screw-down crown and engraved solid caseback, allowing the timepiece to maintain 300 meters of water resistance.
The dial of the Longines Ultra-Chron Carbon’s case embraces a monochrome theme featuring a high-contrast black-and-white color palette. The wide baton hands and the beveled indices are coated in charcoal gray PVD for a stealthy appearance, while white lume fills the hands and indices, providing excellent legibility against the monochrome backdrop. A woven black fabric strap featuring a titanium buckle completes the design.
Similar to its predecessor, the Ultra-Chron Carbon is powered by the L836.6 automatic movement, created exclusively for Longines by ETA. This movement features a 36,000 bph beat rate, a magnetic-resistant silicon balance spring, and an impressive 52-hour power reserve. Its precision is independently chronometer-certified by TIMELAB.
Longines has consistently released solid releases in recent years, and the Ultra-Chron Carbon seems poised to elevate the brand’s status in modern enthusiast circles. It is now available for $4,900 through authorized dealers. For more details, visit the brand’s website.
