Porsche Unveils Limited Edition Porsche 935 for 70th Anniversary

At the recent Rennsport Reunion VI in Leguna Seca, California, Porsche announced their special edition Porsche 935. This limited edition car is a gift from Porsche Motorsport in celebration of their 70th birthday and will be limited to just 77 units.

The new Porsche 935 is based on the 911 GT2 RS sports car with most of the body replaced or supplemented by carbon fiber reinforced polymer and a streamlined extended rear. This allows the car to weigh in at 3,000 pounds. While the aerodynamics of this vehicle are entirely new, the shape pays tribute to the Porsche 935/78, “Moby Dick”, which was known for its elongated shape and white base.

That isn’t the only historical reference Porsche uses here. The side mirrors are from the current 911 RSR, exposed titanium tailpipes drawn from the 1968 Porsche 908, laminated wood gearshift knob harkens back to the Porsche 917, 909 Bergspyder and Carrera GT, and much more. It is a celebratory birthday car, so it makes sense Porsche would utilize prior, successful design elements in this special edition.

Similar to the Porsche 911 GT2, this new 935 comes equipped with a 3.8-liter flat-six twin-turbo engine with 700 horsepower transferred through a seven-speed dual-clutch Porsche Doppelkupplung transmission. It comes default as a single-seater with a massive safety cage, but for added thrill, drivers can purchase a vehicle that includes a passenger seat.

This 935 also comes equipped with Porsche Stability Management, traction control, and an Anti-Lock Braking System, all of which can be adjusted or powered off separately. Martini livery is also an optional addition for drivers.

The track-legal Porsche 935 can be ordered now starting at €701,948 (about $800,000) plus country-based VAT and will be delivered starting in June 2019 at special delivery events. And U.S.-specific pricing will be announced at a later date.
