Google Maps for iOS

Google Maps for iOS

Three months after iOS 6 hit the market with a brand new Maps application, an official Google Maps app is now available in the App Store. With this comes a welcomed competitor to the native Maps app as well as a pretty clean aesthetic that matches that of other Google iOS apps. What did we miss the most, you ask? Well, public transportation directions was a huge gap and Google’s filling it quite nicely with this one. We’ll have to see how it performs in NYC. Also, Google Maps for iOS comes with a beta version of Google Maps Navigation, which has voice-guided, turn-by-turn navigation, and live traffic conditions as well. Signing in with your Google account also lets you sync searches, directions and favorites. Google Maps also has Street View for anyone that missed that.

The new Google Maps app is available for the iPhone and iPod Touch (4th gen) iOS 5.1 and higher, in more than 40 countries and 29 languages, including Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.

Not only did he change the scope of products, he shifted entire industries, with the music and computer industries being two that were influenced the most. But beyond all this, he was just a great person that wanted to get the best out of people. He was one of the greatest visionaries this world has ever known and he influenced an entire generation to “Stay hungry, stay foolish”.

You can find Apple’s official statement here. A part of it reads “Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.”
